Africans learn the procurement business from A to Z

Recently, we were asked by a population project in Nigeria to act as its procurement consultants. Under the personal supervision of our managing director and a contracted consultant, our team taught procurement principles and practice to nearly 40 project officers from all over the country. Our terms of reference covered preparation of procurement schedules for the first three vears of the project, production of sample bidding documents, and preparation of full specifications for the many items on the project's procurement schedule. The consultancy period lasted three months, finishing with a two-week Procurement Procedures training course.

Seventy students - one tap

Conditions at a residential language school in Gjirokastėr, southern Albania, were far from ideal.

One Water Tap More than 70 girls shared one tap and there just weren't enough beds to go round. A Channel Islands construction company, contracted to make improvements, arranged with us to supply building and other materials so that major improvements could be made. It was imperative that the supply of the equipment, purchased from seven different sources, was co-ordinated so that every item was available at a pre-determined delivery point in Jersey, in the Channel Islands: there was no room for error. On the appointed day, at the appointed hour, supplies - which had been regularly progressed by our shipping department and management team - were delivered exactly to contract. The equipment was then loaded on to trucks donated by the States of Jersey government, and driven out to Albania by volunteers.
